Has a new trim motor on it ,the trim will go up but not down.
Its a 200 hp evinrude
( If I undo the hydrolic fluid line at the bottom it will go down then)
Does anyone know the steps to take to trouble shoot it.

Thanks Mike

Does the trim motor run when you press down?

Mike, Is the PTT unit mounted on the OB? When they are on the bench, only the center ram will retract.

Re: Trim will go up but not down new trim motor

The engine goes down via gravity when pushing the down button. The T&T motor runs only to relieve the pressure behind the rams so that they can be pushed back in by the engine as I understand it. If you push down on the engine when pushing the down button does it drop then? If you lift the engine up by hand does it let down easily without being pushed? Sometimes the tilt pivot tube starts binding do to rust or lack of grease and doesn't want to fall on its own. Opening up the relief valve may just release enough pressure so that the engine can push the rams back in. I seem to remember also that there may be a stuck valve that is not allowing the T&T motor to relieve the pressure behind the rams. This is caused by the engine overpressuring the valve when being supported in the up position by only the tilt ram when bouncing down the road. I think Joe Reeves wrote about how to correct this in the past, but I'm not sure where. Might be in the FAQs, I haven't looked. Hope this helps, Jeff.
