Well I finally got my outdrive reinstalled on my old boat with a little motivation from a rubber mallet! Now I have a totally new issue that I have never had any troubles once so ever with. The trim will go down wite ease but it struggles and labors the pump pretty hard when I go up. The trim switch also quit working today but I will tackle that issue another day. Anyway I am using a jumper wire on the trim solenoid to trim up and using the dash button to trim down. The trim has never been an issue before just now. I removed both cyls. and tore them apart and didn't find much wrong. However I did find that the oil that is forced from the cylinders when they are compressed cannot return through the lines. I removed the return lines and the trim will go up with ease. Install the return lines and the trim will go up slightly and stop making the pump labor pretty hard, wait a few minutes and it will go up a little more. I removed the fill plug and vent screw from the pump, removed the return lines, and blew air into the system and I could not get any air through. The odd part to me is oil flows through that same line when you lower the drive and I works fine. I admit it im stumped. Thanks

Re: trim won't go up

That unit has a "reverse lock valve". If it's over adjusted, the pump will struggle while in neutral. It should only struggle in reverse.

To see if this is the case, lower the drive a little. Put it fwd gear gear, engine off it don't need to be runnin. Run the trim up while it's in fwd.

The motor stops because it's overheating! Your trying to kill it.

Ya the problem was quite easy to fix once I found out about the reverse lock valve which I didn't know about. What endedn up being the problem was the control lever was not quite in neutral making the button and the trim not work. The reverse valve was doing its job. Thanks for the help!
