Looking at a 1999 Triton SF18 with 100hp 4-stroke Yamaha. My initial thought is that it's underpowered. Boat is about 1700lbs. dry and is rated for a 150.

Thoughts?

Re: Triton SF18 power?

I have an SF 1800 (Glass) Bass Tracker with a Merc 150, The power is matched perfectly, I wouldnt want to have less power, not at all. I imagine the weight of the two boats is pretty close. They do this to keep the price down, dont fall for it, you will never be happy with the combination. I would rather buy the new boat and put a used 150 on it to save money. There has to be some good deals out there on used 2 cycles with the four stroke craze being what it is. I bought a new boat that way one time and savbed thousands.

Most likely the 4 stroke was selected because of the weight - to keep the boat balanced. Lubedude is not running about 65 MPH with his, so I suspect that this one should run 55 with the right set up. Ask The Lubedude what he thinks.

An 18' boat with a 100HP ??? I dunno, HMMM Id say you are for sure going to see 50 MPH, but I think you are going to have to tickle everything you can to get 55 MPH. Speed comes hard on the water.
