Trolling Motor Batteries

I've got a question regarding trolling motor batteries.

I have a 12/24 volt Minn Kota. I've never run it on 24V, but I guess it would wake it up.

The deal is that I have a chance to get a screaming deal (read free) on another new deep cycle battery. However, it is of a different size, slightly smaller amp rating.

Will this cause any problems? I will charge them seperately.

It would make it run longer, stronger and maybe
even quieter... The only thing I can think of is
that the smaller battery should get discharged first then the second one. Even if that happens, you could parallel them both and set the motor back to 12 volts from 24 to get home...

High D

With a little common sense, you will have no problems if the smaller battery is rated high enough for the motors demands. Yes, the smaller batt will become discharged first, but thats not a big problem, unless you run the troller so long as to totally kill the smaller battery. If this occurs, you will likely end up with the smaller battery taking on an opposite polarity.

If they are "close" in size, don't worry about it. As a precaution, don't run them extremely low....

You can charge them in parallel, just don't leave them hooked in parallel while sitting for long periods.
:)
