Get the 42 And if possible with a watt miser or what ever it is called.I believe this can extend your range by about 30%.

Too big is when on the lowest setting and you turn it on it throws everyone off balance. Lower setting are where battery saver circuits do the most good to save your battery.

Why a Transom mount if your mounting on the bow? Bow mount would be better.

dont have a deck to mount it too and putting a deck would take up too much space..

MinnKota Power Drives have a very small footprint and would take very little work fashioning a mouting surface. Plus they have their version of the battery saver circuitry common in the better motors. But you need to do whatever works for you.

14 ft. jon boat???

go to google then type in " jon boat conversions" and it will tell you all about how to upgrade your jon boat and make it much more suitable for bass fishing... youll see some pretty cool ideas for bow mount upgrades and different elec. trolling motor install ideas that are really cool.
hope it help/motivates.

my boat loks like the tracker panfish 16 but with the livewell down the left side. it has a small front deck but you put a trolling motor mount and seat up there and 6' guy like me would have no leg room.. i looked at extending the deck back about the length of a pin type seat base but then you cuttng off foot room for the front seat.. but i will look into some of the conversions.. i have done one on my other boat and may use it some too abut would hae to buy another motor or swap mine back and forth which would not be that big of deal..

If the best deal is the 42#, then I'd go for it. If you're fishing DeSoto, Moon, Tunica and the like, you're gonna need some trolling speed to get from stump to stump w/o firing up the outboard. Them'r big lakes. It'll come in handy if you ever fish in current too.

My boat is the same size as yours and I converted it to a bass boat a few years ago. Works great for me but I mostly target bass (and gar and bowfin  ) -crappie/bream fishing would get uncomfortable pretty quick. Here's a pic of it. I'll send you the plans and my eventual cost list if you want to tackle the project.

The TM foot control has since been velcroed to the floor up out of the way and once in the down position, the TM is out of the way as well.

-and yes, that a barstool seat. :D

spots
