Trolling Motor Mounted Transducer

I've got an older minnkota bow mounted trolling motor and an older lowrance depth finder. When I hooked up the depth finder (to the batter the trolling motor runs on) everytime the motor is on the screen goes sort of funny. If I remember correctly the whole thing went black like I just drove over a weedbed sort of thing. Now I know I'm not supposed to hook up the depth finder on the same battery as the trolling motor so I'm wondering if that was the problem, or if it was because of the motor itself interfering with the transducer?

It is very likely caused by the motor interfering with the locator. Try connecting the locator to the starting battery. The low current draw of the locator will not kill the starting battery.

Re: Trolling Motor Mounted Transducer

Thanks for the help...I tried a different battery today and it seems to be better. I'll test it out in the lake tomorrow. Thanks!
