Is it possible to put a trolling motor on an 18 1/2' open bow with a 85HP motor. Or, is that too heavy? The bow sits pretty high out of the water. How about a transom mount?

Howdy.

Anything is possible if you decide to do it.

Are you talking about an electric? Piece of cake.

You may need to fabricate a flat surface to mount a bow-mount electric.

Need more info to be any more help.

Good luck. :)

What about the distance from the bow to the water? Are there shafts that long? And what kinda thrust should I be looking for?

You need to measure from the mounting height of the motor and then measure app 19" below the water line, then figure how much you need above the deck to control the motor. This will give you a minimum length.

Hi,

I'm still waffling over what to put on my 20'Lund. Lot's of good info on the net. Think I'm giving up some thrust (was thinking 74 or 101 lbs) and going for the 18'long foot cable Riptide 65/AP. Sounds like a nice toy to play with!

Read this......

http://www.outdoorcanada.ca/control_power.html

Re: Trolling motor on openbow?

I heard Minn Kota was the best. I need Salt water model, thought about the Motor Guide cause their salt water foot control has 82 lbs of thrust. But after researching the steering, I'd rather have the 18' flexible cable than the short 5' rigid rack and pinion foot control MG offers. Hope this helps!
