Trolling motor Plug size

I have a 2 prong recepticle on my boat with 8 gauge wire. I want use 4 gauge wire (that I got for free) and run it to the back of my boat. The wire length will be 22' one way. Is it ok to hook up 4 gauge to 8 gauge and not cause any problems? Should I be using a different plug? My TM is a 24v system and my batteries are hooked up in series.

That's fine as long as the draw is not more than the 8 guage can handle.

I've looked everywhere for a 4 gauge plug but have had no luck. Does anyone know where I can find one?

It is not a deck mount plug, but I like this one. It needs to be soldered. Give yourself some time to research if you are agreeable to solder.
