Is a Minkota 40lbs thrust bow mount pedal motor strong enough/ long enough to troll around a 1978 Starcraft 14' Tri hull boat?

It all depends on what you call trolling. In one type of fishing it means trolling at .75 to 1.5 MPH, in others it means doing 3.5 MPH or better in wind and current. In bass fishing it means moving slowly or holding in one place.

Older motors use a different method of governing motor speed that is less efficient and results in shorter battery life.

For my usage, 40lbs would be perfect. But I troll along banks for pitching crappie and bass and issues like that. Rarely do I troll for very long extended periods with just the trolling motor. So my answer is YES, but it depends on how YOU troll. Others may find it too small. I don't need the most powerful latest high output trolling motors I see these days for sell. As you move up in the trust ratings you also use more amperage, needing motor battery power and even higher voltages (two or three batteries). That is just my 2 cents.

Thank you so much gm280 for a helpful answer, makes me feel better about my purchase. That's all I need the stealth motor to do is putt me through the coves silently in the coves for bass.
