I need to replace my bow mount, foot controlled trolling motor with a new one. I am thinking of a Minn Kota all terrain. I have a couple of questions. First, what type of mounting hardware will come with it? Also, will I need to access the underside of where it will mount? I have a 15' fiberglass bass boat and I don't see any way to reach that section of the boat without cutting a hole. Any advice would be appreceated.

Re: Trolling motor replacement

lazydawg, the hardware comes with the motor, you can also get a quick realease plate to mount the motor on. I just bought a powerdrive and it was not fun trying to reach under the bow to bolt it down so i ended up cutting a hole and resealed it when i was done. I don't know any other way to reach it. Hope this helps

lazydawg,<br />I assume when you ask, "will I need to access the underside of where it will mount"? You're concerned about fastening the unit to your boat? I've used an expandable, threaded insert for places like that. The ones I'm referring to are all metal not rubber and brass. It works on the same principle as a pop-rivet but is threaded inside. You drill a hole to accept this thing which is knurled on the outside. You tap it in place until its flange is flush with the boat exterior then attach a tool that looks like a big pop-rivet gun and start tightening and squeezing. It will collapse and expand on the inside of your work piece. I think some people call them rev-nuts. A dealer that sells aluminum boats or a fabricating, racing, metal shop should be able to point you in the right direction.
