Johnson 1988 28hp SPL: Here is the problem, I am trolling along and the motor is running OK at low rpm?s; we hook up with a trout, shift the motor into neutral and while we were are in the process of boating the fish the motor stalls out. Motor runs strong WOT and appears not to miss a beat.
When attempting to restart the motor I discover it takes numerous tries. The motor will fire off & run a few seconds and stall out, this cycle repeats itself 4 > 5 time before continuing to run. When the motor restarts the throttle is very temperamental, you have to advance it very, very slowly or it will (bog down?) stall out.
After the motor catches up to itself and settles down, it will for the most part run OK, until the next fish comes along and the cycle repeats itself. It will at times stall-out during a trolling run (low RPM?s) and the problem described above occurs.
One the things I am finding prior to the restart is that there is no pressure being maintained in the primer bulb. I have found that by pumping the bulb pressure ?back up? it appears to help on the restarts.
Thanks folks for any help you can provide.
