Trolling motor shaft length

I just bought a minn kota power drive and was wondering if it is possible to cut the shaft length down from 48 to 42"??????

b<br />Why do you want to cut the shaft? Maybe there is an easier/better solution to what you are trying to achieve.

The 36" I have now gets in the way as it is!

it is a 12' boat that is only 8-10" off the water....

i cut mine yesterday, just take off top box and cut tubing be carefull going around you dont cut wire drill new pin hole and there ya go i went from 54 inch to 42 inch..

There is a guy over at smallmouthsdotcom that just posted a pictorial instruction on this .

He used a copper pipe over the wires and in the shaft to protect while cutting. Looked pretty straightforward to me.
