Trolling motor size, any recommendations.

Hey guys I'm back. So I'm tired of making mistakes and then coming her to learn from them. So before I buy anything I want your opinions. I have an 89 starcraft holiday 18', I want to put a bow mount foot pedal controlled telling motor on it. I wonder what shift length and thrust I should be looking for, and if there was anything else I should consider in my search. Any and all recommendations are extremely appreciated.

Put on the biggest/longest trolling motor you can afford.

Your boat has high sides so the wind will push it around a lot.

I have a 70# (24V) 60" shaft (Minn Kota-Power Drive V2) on my Larson 18'. Granted, the Larson probably weighs twice what your Starcraft weighs. However, you can never have too much troller.

I also bought the wireless hand controller. Well worth the extra $125.00. I just clip it to my shirt. No cables to trip over.

Agree: I thought my 55# was a over kill on a 14 flat bottom but have not regretted it.

I put an 80lb thrust MK on my 17' Bass Tracker and to me it feels just right. So at leas a 70lb. and 24 volts and go up from there. A friend once asked me if I would ever complain that there is too much power? Nope, but if I didn't go big enough I'd be crying. As for shaft length don't guess at it. Get a real true measurement from water to mount point. If you have a good waterline on the hull you can use that or you may need to get out on the water to do this. Then add some to get it deep enough.

Sooooo. I guess I should look for a 24 volt 80 lb plus thrust with a hand remote as well as foot control.
