You do not use screws in a fiberglass, aluminim, or wood boat. You use stainless steel bolts, flat washers, and nylon insert locking nuts. An alternate technique is to use "well nuts". These are rubber plugs that are pushed into the mounting holes. The well nut has a nut in the end and as you tighten the bolt it expands the rubber. These work really well, they eliminate the need to get under the deck with nuts and washers, and the top of the well nut serves as a cushion for the troller so it doesn't sit directly on the boat. Minnkota makes an installation kit that has the well nuts and all the needed hardware.
