Trolling motor

Hi i am going to buy a minn kota fortrex 80# bow mount but my question is what shaft length 45" or 52" i have a 24' sweetwater pontoon the fence & gate is on the edge in front ,any body know if the shaft is adjustable or stationary , any help would be appreciated , on another note i do live in oklahoma average wind is about 10 to 15 gusting to what ever sometimes .

The shafts are adjustable for height. 45 inch should be fine.

I have a 54" shaft on mine. I don't think I'd want it any shorter. In this pic I've got the motor (blade) just deep enough to get a good bite and the water is nice and calm. If we had a little chop I'd probably want it another 6" deeper. Also we have a fishing pontoon not a party barge. My front fence and gate are pretty low. with a short shaft and a high gate you'd probably have to tie the gate open when you use the trolling motor. Just a few things to think about. Thats what these forums are for. To give people things to think about. I think they're great.

Welcome to iboats.

I am in the better safe than sorry camp and would go with the 52'', they will slide up and down in the mount so if it is too long, hard to do with a troller, you can just move it up a bit but if you go too short you can't make it longer.
