Trolling motors in saltwater

I have an older Die-Hard brand trolling motor (I believe they were actually made by Minkota). I'd like to put this on my inflatable pontoon and fish for Salmon this sumer in the bays around my place. BUT...I have no idea if it will ruin my motor. Can I use it provided I thoroughly wash it down after each use?
I know it would be better if I had a Riptide but the moneys just not there right now.

Thanks,
Terry B.

How do you washdown the inside of a motor? The salt laden air will do more damage than the water itself.

I guess the key is...whether or not the motor housing is sealed well enough. The head unit is already sealed.

Go ahead and use it and give it a thorough washdown when done. A light spritz with WD40, tent water proofing, or a good waxing before each use might help prevent salt water damage.

I have one I've used in salt water and brackish water and it's fine.

It's about 10 years old and has a few small pits around the lower housing.

Just rinse it off, or place it in a barrel of fresh water.
Grease up the mounting screws and any exposed hardware.

Mine gets rinsed with WD40 for storage.
