I have a 14 ft jon with an 80# Minn Kota on the transom,no gas motor. I can get up to 4.7 mph fully loaded(approx. #750 fully loaded),and usually cruise at about 3 mph. I have not been on the water long enough to kill the batteries.
This setup works very well, but I would like to add a remote steer bow mount. I also only want to add 1 extra battery so #55 would be as big as I can go. Is adding another trolling motor with less thrust going to make the boat faster or is the additional drag going to make it slower. Maybe about the same just using more power. going faster is not a goal of mine but I will take it.
Another option is to replace the tramsom mount with a remote steer either #80 or #101.

Re: trolling motors with different thrust

An additional troller of any thrust will help reduce drag thus allowing for more speed. However the speed increase will be negligible. Getting above 5mph in an electric is tough.

On my tinny I have been known to fire up the 25 hp to scoot to a better spot and leave the bow troller down (#55 mINKOTA) at just above idle speed kicking on the troller there is a noticeable decrease in drag.

I used to frequent a bass forum, several guys had all electrics and the 5mph mark was about the threshold using trolling motors.
