hello...i'm seriously considering buying in 2002-2005 1802 trophy...from what i've read they sound like good boats...theres one with a 90 merc on it is this enough motor for the boat...i've also ssen one with a 115....any thing elese i should look for...never had a mercury are they any good again any areas i should pay attention to....thanks

Rob the 1802 is a great boat. I had a 2000 with a 125 mercury it would move dont know were you will use it but i had mine on the chesapeake bay, had to keep a eye on the weather its been in 2 to 3 footer. Now i have a 2005 2302 pro and it is great too. Go for the 1802 and enjoy.

Rob i know the long island sound. I grew up on long island but on the south shore Great south bay in suffolk county. soooooooooo get excited and have fun tight lines.

cool...we are on the north shore..northport...whats funny is my fiance and i think its getting way to expensive here and don't know where to go...but virginia keeps comming up...was there much of a difference...hey at least i know there would be decent boaters like yourself around!!my wife to be does not want to worry about our new boat..mechanically that is....do u have any reason as to why we should not buy a new 1802...acually its a leftover 2006 it would be about 26grand!!...i like the idea of brand new with warrantys...but how bad am i getting screwed by buying new? any ideas on the subject....or we could get a 03 for 16000..but no warrenty

Rob i know Northport my dad was in the va hospital there. I lived in patchogue on the south shore.I left there when i joined the Navy. I now live in va beach a 1 1/2 miles from the Chesapeake bay its a great place to fish we have one of the biggest fishing reefs around( The Chesapeake bay bridge tunnel AKA CBBT). we purchased our 2005 2302 for the same reasons Warrant. There a bunch of 1802 and 2002 down here, I hope that help Rob.

I picked up a nice 1802 a couple weeks ago it has a merc saltwater 125 on it. All I can say is that I love this boat. I had it out last weekend in S.F. bay in not to great of conditions and it was ready for anything. It is a 2000 that I picked up for 14 grand. If you look around I am sure you can find a nice well taken care of boat. just stay away from the ones with the force outboards on them.. I havent figured out how to post pics on here yet but if if you want to see what I got for my money lemmie know and I can email you a pic or two. 90 horse too small in my opinion.

thanks luke..i'm going tomorow to pick up a 05 leftover...23grand...it has a 115 4stroke merc...it should be fine for our use....i know thats a lot of cashola but the wife wanted something with a warenty...yes dear!!

well i went out on sunday with the wife and father in law on our 05 1802...it was great..fishing was not so great a couple of sea robbins and a small fluke but no complaints with the boat..could not really get on it i wanna beak in the motor for a bit first

congrats on your new boat, i have a 2004 1802 125 merc saltwater, bought it new in 04 and havent had a problem. Love my boat.

Make sure you break in the outboard to the specs in the manual. I am sure your boat will serve you well. The fish will come and I am expecting you will post your catch when it comes.. Nothing better than the first fish blood on the floor of a new boat!!!

Hi Rob, I live right across the pond from you in Westport, Ct. I picked up a 2005 1802 with a 115hp 4-stoke with only 30 hrs on the motor. I love the boat and have been out in the sound with up to 3 footers without any problems. I would say that a 115 4-stroke is minum for that boat. Top end is about 38-40 Mph @ 5500 Rpm. It tends to be a little slow out of the hole with a good load on board and thinking of changing to a 4 blade prop. The only problem I have had is the stinger under the fish well has a drain through it which is clogged and I have not been able to clear it yet or find a good way to get to it. I know others with 1802 have had the same problem so keep an eye out for it. First sign I had was the rug in the cabin got wet as water was coming out the electical port next to the steps. If you have water in there then that drain is clogged..

hey raymor...thanks for the tips..it looks like they used pieces of half inch pvc to get under all the stringers..so far mine are still clear..i wonder if u could use a long plastic dowl or something to snake it through..i agree its a bit hard getting the boat up with anyone elese in it...it does not help that the large folks sit next to the motor...i was thinking about getting a set of smart tabs..we were out this sunday pulling around a tube with kids..it seemed the speed at witch it just gets on plane was good..but then it would go to fast and i'd have to back off..and then it would come off plane..i know its a fishing boat but i'm also condidering adding other u bolts (dont know the proper name) to the transom higher and fruther out to attach a skier/tube the stock ones are too low and narrow..also need a swim platform and am/fm radio..i'm wondering where to mount the speakers though..i'll keep everyone updadted..my motor is almost broken in...so far i'm quite happy...oh except for the trailer...the boat is a pain to launch..i have to back up and nail the breaks which i really dont like then i have to push and curse to get it the rest of the way..oh and i'd like a gps/depth finder...that should do it!! we caught some crabs on sunday..not the ones that are fun while your catching them!!

Rob for your trailer if it a bunk carpet type try some liquid rollers spray west marine sells it, and it works. I used it when i had my 1802 too. Have fun

Congratulations on the boat Rob. I had an 1802 before my 2052...it's a great boat. As far as launching and retrieving are concerned, it sounds like you're not putting the trailer in deep enough. With either the 1802 or my current 2052 I just walk the boat off or on the trailer. I launch at Wantagh Marina so maybe the ramp is longer, but I put the trailer in so that the rear wheels of my truck are almost touching the water. Boat comes off or on easy as pie. If you can't get the trailer in that deep then try silicone spray on the bunks.

thanks mole2 perhaps it is the ramp i back in untill my tires are touching the water...the trailer fenders are totally under...i mover the winch piece back 2 inches the last time i loaded it...it comes on good..i winch it up maybe 6 feet..i will try the spray on the bunks did u have a amfm radio on your 1802..i'm thinking about it but the speaker locations are troubling me...thank again

Yes, I did install an AM/FM/CD in my 1802. You can see pictures of the install here: AM/FM Radio Install in Cabin on 2003 Trophy 1802.

As you can see, I put my speakers inside the cabin. We could hear it just fine when we were anchored and we didn't want to disturb others. The speakers were bought from Radio Shack and were outdoor speakers. You can see the starboard one here:

As far as the antenna, I used a splitter for the VHF antenna which was moutned on the starboard wing. Access was up in the electric cabinet where the fuse box is located and behind the radio mount which replaced the rug covered hatch.
