Trophy trim tab issue

I am looking at putting a set of trim tabs (Bennet) on my 1991 Bayliner Trophy 2002. They will interfer with my swim platform where they need to go. Meaning the cylinder will go right through the swim platform on one side only. My question is; "Has anyone ever cleared a hole through their swim platform for the trim tab cylinder? and Does anyone have pics for reference?"

I am currently rebuilding the transom and reinstalling the fittings and wiring tonight. This is one of the things that I need to figure out. Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Check out the project by my link in my signature.

Jeff,

What Bennett Trim Tabs kit are you planning to install on your Trophy? I would recommend the 10" x 12" M120s. The M120s have a short actuator (that can be made even shorter) and often can fit under a swim platform.

Do you have a picture with measurements of the swim platform on the transom?

Jeff,

I found a photo of your transom from your rebuild post. Can you tell me what the measurement I have indicated is? Measure along the transom five inches in from the chine flat, then 90 degrees fron the deadrise to the bottom of the swim platform. That will tell me what space we need to fit an actuator (ram).

Unfortunately I do not have pics and dims. I will have them tomorrow. I will try to mock up the issue for the pic. If I get around to it.

I was hoping for sugestions/pic of other peoples boats for inspiration for a fix.

Re: Trophy trim tab issue

Jeff,

I had a similar issue on my Aquasport 20 ft. When I installed the M120s I used the shortest actuator. It used about 9-1/4" of vertical height where I marked on your photo. The top mounting of the actuator just went behind the swim platform. I have since sold the boat so I don't think I have a picture (but I will look).

My point is that you may not even have to cut the platform if you have more than 9-1/4" to mount the actuator on an M120.

Here is how it mounts:

Re: Trophy trim tab issue

Jeff,

Ok, that's a "standard" 18 x 9 kit. It's a good size for your Trophy. The dimensions are different than what I posted and the actuator that comes with it would need more height than the M120s I posted. Since it is 18" side to side measure in 9" from the chine flat along the deadrise and then see what the distance to the bottom of the swim platform.

We have some shorter actuators that may fit nicely and I'll be happy to arrange a no cost swap.

Here is the drawing for a standard kit:

In your kit you should have the 13-3/4" actuators and I can swap them for the 11-3/4" ones and they may very well fit under the platform.

Thanks for the help. The shorter actuator's would definately help. Right now when I roughly set things up the actuator would of mounted on top of my scuppers.

How would we go about exchanging these? I am very interested in do so.

Jeff,

Contact M.J. Thomas at our factory MJTHOMAS@BENNETTTRIMTABS.COM 954-427-1400
Tell him that Tom McGow said to send you 2 each A1200S Actuator Assembly ? Small Version and that you will send back the 2 standard actuators once you receive the short ones. Make sure you include your name, phone number and address. There will be a packing slip in with the short actuators, make sure you put the packing list in the box with the standard actuators. There will be no charge for the actuators or shipping to you. All we ask is that you pay the shipping the standard actuators back to us.

I hope this helps with your Trophy project!

Unfortunately we can't send the parts first out of the country like we do here. It can become a hassle with customs and shipping.

Re: Trophy trim tab issue

Well recieved the new cylinders yesterday. Wow! Talk about service!. I mail the old ones out and the new ones came in 3 days later! Bennett is definately on the ball with no red tape at all!

I would have started the installation of these right away but unfortunately the weather here has turned very cold and the hull is out side tarped. I'm currently working on the cap right now. But by the end of next week I will be getting in to this installation! Looking forward to it.

I have to give a shout out to the Tabman. Thank you for all your help with this one. I will deffinately be posting the installation on my build thread. Now if I could only exchange my switch for one of those ones with the indicator lights on it. But that is a serious upgrade and will be left to spring time.

Thanks again Tabman!!!!:D
