trouble finding head for johnson 1981 25hp, can i use later years?

hoping i can get some help. long story short, i lost the water jacket for the head of my johnson 25hp vintage 1980. i now am looking for a head and water jacket as i think the head might be too warped to get back into service.
from the parts catalog it seems that the head is only from 1979-1982? can i safetly use a newer head? like 1989 or so? the water jackets are the same, are the heads the same too??

If you contact your local Bombardier dealer, you will find your original head part number 324319 supercedes to 327671 and finally to 335635. Bombardier stocks the 635 part number.
