Trouble Finding Older OMC Parts

I have a 1985 Evinrude 6 hp model # E6RCOB that the choke lever must be missing a spring clip or whatever, choke wll not hold position pushed in or pulled out. Most OMC parts websites I visited list part obsolete. Anyone know of a website that specializes in obsolete OMC parts.

EBAY!!!!! I buy most of the boat parts I need there. Just bought a bunch of parts for a 1973 85HP that are "Obsolete." Start your searches with (Evinrude, Johnson) for either/or or both search. Get part number from reference site and add onto search with either/or of part number with and without a 0 on the front. This is the most direct accurate way. If want to see all parts for your hp motor then enter a either/or list of all the HPs and/or years that shared the same parts. Can further limit from there. You will be surprised what you can find. Caution though need to take into account the price plus shipping. Ebay does not charge their fee on shipping charges, so a lot of sellers lower their item price and make it back with unbelievably high shipping costs. Use your watch list to remember what you found and pick the best deal and seller.

Lots of times you can take the obsolete part number, copy it and do a search on google and find either that part or a sub for it. And yes even Ebay can help. Most of the time if it is a hardware type part, you can find a sub in the better hardware stores. I know I have. Also search for your part here on iboats and see if they possible have it. JMHO

Ok guys thanks for the information, I checked the parts diagram link that oldboat1 posted hoping it/they would be offered but like all the other diagrams I've looked at it does not show it available. It's part # 13 on the diagram, also the two grommets #14 and # 15 listed that I would like to replace are not available either. Thanks again for all the information I'll keep on searching.

Tony, have you looked at newer engine diagrams to see if they have similar parts in those engines? I say that because that is how I managed to find the cowling gasket/seal for my old '76 Johnson 40 HP engine. I kept looking until I found the part in a newer model that was still available but with a different part number. And you would think they would have crossed check older numbers with newer ones. But no, YOU have to do that effort sometimes. But it does help to search for newer models for similar parts. JMHO

You can also try your local NAPA and O'rielly auto parts stores; they have a marine parts section/catalog. Good luck

Parts numbers 13, 14 and 15 are not likely to be found at MOST outboard motor parts sources, including Iboats, Napa or Oreillys or similar.

They are NLA obsolete parts that wont be easy to come by. Might try looking for used cowls and hope that its got good used parts on it.

Your best bet is to post an ad on AOMCIs site, as mentioned, and you might get lucky.

A guy there makes repopped rubber and plastic parts and miggt be able to point you in the right direction or cast new ones.

That use to be the way that it worked. Ebay charges and has charged a fee on shipping costs for years now. I cant remember on the international shipping if you get charged for it but I promise you that they do on domestic shipping, and it was just because of what you pointed out. People selling things for a penny and having $30- shipping charges cause commission was just on the penny sales price. I promise you its this way now, this is coming from an Ebay seller myself, albeit I am small time but they do charge a commission on shipping.

You also have to watch where the item is and how it is coming. So many times the price seen good and even with shipping added in. BUT, it is in China or worst and takes weeks to months to get it. I know I order an item the day after last Christmas, and it didn't show up at all. But I could request a refund until the proposed date expired, and that was in March. JMHO

Added some pics for those to see what I've been referring to as the choke lever, I believe it's missing some sort of a retention spring/clip that fits on top of the lever. Right now it functions to open and close but just flops around unless you constantly have a hand on the push/pull knob.

Looking at it, it would seem like you need a washer on there first and then a standard cotter pin. But that is my uneducated idea. :noidea:

Yeah that little piece of wire twisted is from the guy I bought it from, his work, I believe there is like a C clip or E clip that should be there. He must of lost it while doing the carburator overall. I've got some that will fit it just haven't got to it yet.
