Sorry to hear you have issues with your engine.

I pulled the trigger on a Four Winns 278 1994 super ultra
mega clean and it has a pair of Mustang Cobra engines (MPI)
in front of twin counter rotating Cobras which are joint Volvo/OMC
development.

I added another trouble free 54 hours since purchase and it is
a very nice ride.

I do not know if they had shifting issues, but the previous
owner had an excellent OMC mechanic and the engines/drives
are great! The only issue is one erratic trim sender so I simply
always use both trim buttons in unison.

Did 53MPH with a slight nose wind and it flies!

Good luck with your adventure :D

All of the obvious bugs have been worked out. No flying here, I'm happy at 32 MPH.

Those are nice boats! How much did "pulling the trigger" cost?

16K... 6 YO camper top,
redone cabin diner seating and cockpit vinyl throughout...
Runs like a dream, I waited, understood people are scared of
OMC and used it to my advantage.

I actually had a much larger budget, but was so disappointed
by people maintaining their 2004 boats like crap...

I am astonished how little people know of boats but will
spend 100,000$ on them...

Anyhow, back to you topic :D

Make sure it is actually overheating. Measure the temp at the sending unit with an IR thermometer to make sure it matches what the gauge is showing. If it is accurate than you should check the impeller out. If that is fine then replace the thermostat. If that still doesnt fix it then time to pull the exhaust manifolds and risers and check the condition/flow of them.

The impeller liner spun and blocked the H20 flow.

New housing, liner and impeller ready for action, with spares on board.

Everything else is fine. had them all apart many times and it's all good.

This post was started only as an attempt at being a comedian. Apparently I'm not funny.

I read you loud and clear!! Mine was in the garage most of July and August ... didn't give me a lick of trouble after I blew the head gasket :D

... Just splashed it back on this weekend.
