Trouble getting 1992 Force 120hp started.

I have a 1992 120hp Force that I can get started on the 2nd or 3rd crank when it's in my driveway with the earmuffs on, but when I put in in the water it usually takes me about 10 minutes to get it started. Once I get it started it runs great, I can shut it off, fish, and it will start right up when I'm ready to go again. It's just getting started when I first put it in the water.

Are you using the choke? All of my Force and Chrysler motors act somewhat similar between the house and the lake. I chalk it up partly to being tilted up during transit. Sometimes yours truly will forget to close the vent on the tank, and by the time I get to the lake the carbs are flooded!

Yes, I am using the choke. I'm not the most mechanical person, but where is the vent and how do I close it? I have a Bayliner Cobra with a built in tank. I don't know if that makes a difference or not.

All of my boats have portable tanks, these usually have a little knob on the filler cap that srcews down to create a seal, and when unscrewed allows the fuel to be pumped withought creating a vaccum in the tank. As for built in tanks, I would think the valve would be on the fuel filler cap.

Cold start routine: 1) Squeeze primer bulb until firm. 2) Push throttle to fast idle. 3) Push key in to activate choke. 4) Turn key to start w/choke still activated. 5) Upon start, release key which cancels choke and starter. On a well tuned engine, 1st time, every time. Plugs: When an engine becomes hard to start, the first thing to check is the plugs for fouling. Just passing along what worked for me and learned on this forum.

If you don't have a fast idle lever on the controls, then you need to use the throttle only button and advance the throttle about 3/4 open.
This all depends on which controls you have.
