I have a 95 Mercury 60 HP Bigfoot that is very difficult to shift from either forward or reverse back into neutral. It shifts from neutral with ease, however. Does anyone know what the problem could be, and if so what measures to take to correct it? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

It sounds like the idle may be to high

The idle certainly seems to be correct. The problem is that the shifter is physically difficult to move back into neutral. Someone said it may be that the throttle cable has too much tension, but I am not certain how to ease the tension. Any ideas? I will certainly check the idle speed. Thanks.

If the throttle cable is preloaded to the point it is binding up the shift box goto the cable attachment point on the engine the throttle cable should be the top one you can turn the cable anchor to relieve the pressure on the idle stop it should just touch the idle stop
