Re: Trouble shooting Merc 200hp

Thanks Clanton, will do. The problem with diagnosing this is....after the broken ring, it got a new powerhead (remanfac from Merc) and ran GREAT for 100-150 hours. So i believe the problem was fixed. So if a reed was broken, it couldnt have been after the powerhead fix, or could it? Anyway, then it blew #6. Now it is fixed, runs GOOD (for now), the reed cant be still broken, could it? I am basically trying to keep the thing from blowing again. I start it every couple of days, rev it in neutral up to 2000rpm's (quick pumping fuel through the system) I run stabilizer, water seperator, etc. Is there something i am missing? It has to be something that would get by a mechanic twice. Maybe something is wrong, causing the dameage, that is not obvious on the surface. Like the fuel pump theory, or the gum and varnish in the carbs causing it to run lean, or the jets not set right etc.
