Trouble Shooting Steering Problem

I have posted a few time regarding this with no success fixing it. My steering is stuck on my 115 Merc Outboard 4s. The motor is basically new with only 20 hours. I have been trying to unfreeze the swivel bracket using heat, grease and lite banging. The post below is a recent post of mine. In this post someone states that with the age of the motor, the swivel bracket could not be corroded together. The problem is definitely coming from this area though. Is there anything else this could possibly be?

Re: Trouble Shooting Steering Problem

Should I have to remove the lower housing/shell of the motor to get to the appropriate part of the swivel bracket I need to heat up? I have been heating the lower part of the long solid peice, but not sure if this is hitting the gear where I need it.

I don't know. Anything that might give us an insight as to what's wrong. The more the better, non redundant of course. When you look at something you have never seen before, it helps. Right now we're just blue sky second guessing.

Any disassy you can take pics of will help also.

Re: Trouble Shooting Steering Problem

Lets start with the obvious, way back you said the steering cable was dis-connected, where and how, exactly what is disconnected?

Close up pics could be helpful, maybe someone would notice anything out of the ordinary.

Assuming the boat is on a trailer, try placing a floor jack under the skag and carefully take some pressure off the transom, don't try to acctually lift the motor/boat, just lighten the load a bit and see if there is any difference.

Is it also a safe assumption the with the steering link removed from the enginne that the steering wheel turns freely and the cable protrudes/retracts smoothly?
