Trouble starting.

Hi guys! I'm new here. I just brought my first boat and it has a 93 mariner magnum 40 2 stroke 4cyl. The problem I'm having is their is now wiring leading up to the throttle for a key or switch. The previous owner said it runs fine. But for the life of me I can't figure out how he has done it. ?? Any tips would be greatly appreciated thanks.

is it a tiller or a remote start, dose it have a battery connected, a serial number will help a lot
