Hey guys I'm looking for some answers I'm stumped. I have a 1980 evinrude 50. My problems are as follows: it takes alot of playing around to get tge boat started playing with the chokes etc. Then once started revs great but has no power when wide open throttle it's as slow as a 9.9 the boat won't even plane out. Any ideas??

Sounds like you are dropping a cylinder, check compression and spark.

If the compression is good look to fuel. It could be bad fuel, like ethanol fuel drawing in water, which I had twice last year. It behaved a lot like you are describing. I changed plugs, rebuilt fuel pump, all over some bad fuel. Run your tanks dry and refuel before each trip if you can, If you let ethanol gas sit it will draw in moisture. Good luck.
