Trouleshot tach

Hello,
I can't find the right kind if info on here so I thought I'd make a new post. My tach doesn't work. What is the best way to find out if it's the wire or the tach. And what is the wire color?

I think I might have a recticfier problem. My battery rests at 12.2 volts with motor off. At idle I still get 12.2 volts. I get no charging
I'm pretty sure my tah works, when I turn on my acc the tach pegs zero.
