First off nothing is wrong with steering.
I've lubed the 2 zerts on the intermediate housing.
i've looked in the manuals and there is no where mentioned on how to lube the cable itself.

I just what to keep my 37 year old cable in good working order.
Im thinking about remove cable end form the helm. Peel back (open) the plastic cover guard and drip some tri flow into the cable.
I don't what to remove the intermediate end at this time

any thoughts good or bad.
Is there a other way?
input please.

Remove drive. Disconnect rear trucourse drum from steering shaft. Pull steering shaft. Hold rear drum as high as possible and shoot triflow down the passage ways while someone turns the wheel all the eay each direction. I used a full can. (The smaller can).

I understand what you are saying. and thank you
But i stated above that I didnt want to remove the the the cable from the intermediate housing.
My helm is 4+ feet above the the rear drum so I got lots of slope.

Good luck! dehuges stated the right ( and IMHO the only) way to do it..
If by chance, you can access the cable entryways at the helm end, you could do the same from that end.

Slittin' into a steering cable would creep me out. I've tried to patch one (not a tru-course, though) in the past and it didn't work well at all.

My boat has Total access to the inside of the helm.
Flip top gauge panel. (hinged) the wiring (back of gauges&switches) is in your face at eye level and removable side panels.
That is so nice.

On a standard runabout I guess

Thank god my boats not normal.

I guess if youre totally against pulling the drive you could disconnect the helm trucourse drum, remove the steering wheel and shaft. Reinstall the drum to the shaft, and hold it up as high as you can and have someone else spray in the cableways. They will also have to hold the trucourse cable drum to keep it from spinning around the shaft. I dont see you getting the same penetration though.

Well it turned out I did not have to remove the cable at all just opened the plastic cover an had full access to the task.
did not need a 2nd person, I was able to spin the wheel at the speed I wanted as the oiler.

BTY I was not against removing the drive, My boat is different that yours or another.boat

Know of a twin engine 351 that if you were to change the starter on the port motor you would need to remove the manifolds off both motors to get access.

I couldn't Imagine doing the lift motor in that tight hole
