Friend of mine just did the exterior portion of his hull with Herculiner roll-on DIY truck bed liner. Does anyone have experience with this being on the outside/underwater part of the boat? I told him that I thought is should go inside, but he didn't want to remove his flooring. Will the stuff last underwater? His boat is a 20' Aluminum that is trailered. Max time in water is a long weekend.

One thing it will do is put added drag on the hull. Otherwise I don't how it will perform long term.

It should hold up relatively well as long as the surface was prepped adequately beforehand i.e. clean and lightly scuffed. I agree with Keith, serious drag effect.

It was smooth so I'm not sure drag will be an issue. It was white and actually looked really good on the boat. I think he paid about $200 all told, and basically painted it on over the hull. He had a few pin hole leaks and thought this would resolve his issue. We'll see! I was more concerned that the stuff would last under water, but it is made for rain and snow, so I guess it should be OK.

I've heard of folks doing this, or should I say, having it done. The places that spray this stuff, can actually spray it smooth. I know there's the added weight, especially on a 20-footer, but it's aluminum, so he didn't start with a lot of weight.

Yah my only concern would be the added drag that it would cause. But if it went on smooth....then it should work. As someone above mentioned, the prep is key, hope he did a good job. As far as holding up, it is made to go in truck beds after all......

He just spent a bunch of money that was not needed. If you read the Marinetex web site gluvit can be applied to the outside of the hull too. I would back up just a bit and find out WHY it was applied.

I guess it should last but I still ask WHY?

I would never spend money to put bedliner outside of a hull.
