Truck broken into/boat key stolen - need ignition

I have a 91 Bayliner Capri with a 3.0 Mercruise i/o. As stated in the subject, the keys to the boat were stolen when my truck was broken into this week & i'll need to get a new ignition switch. Can I just get a general ignition like the one offered in the marine store on this site or is there a particular one that I need. Any help is appreciated.

I have a Glastron and had only one key. I tried to make duplicates to no avail so I took the key to the dealer and he said no problem. He took down the number/letter combo and said he has to get them from Glastron, took about a week. Bayliner should be the same.

Was the ignition switch the original for the boat? If it is and you can remember the number/letter combination that was stamped on it, just go down to a dealer and order replacements.

look on the ignition switch next to the key slot. should be #s there. that to merc dealer, they can get you a key.

I went to Autozone when I lost my keys. They had a switch for about 6 bucks that worked for me. Four positions I think: aux, off, run, start.

Don't know about your boat though.

Dave The ignition switch for that motor is a standard item at the discount marine stores. They are also easy to replace. Just count the number of terminals and buy one for an I/O with that number of terminals.

+1 on AutoZone. I just took my switch with me and they had almost the exact same one hanging up. $6 was the price I remembered too.
