Well this is certainly getting intresting isnt it?? Heck, who knows.....maybe the mechanic that installed the longblock did some tinkering??? I dunno.....so i guess now that im at this point and no work has been done on these heads, then i shud just upgrade to roller rockers on 113's from a donor??

Looking at the intake ports and valves on your engine reminds me of the road I went down with my Mercruiser 454 a year or so ago. I initially thought that it may have been from leaky exhaust manifolds and reversion . . . turned out to be water ingestion from the intake side.

I hope it all gets sorted out . . .

Intrestingly enough.....there are 2 intake ports you can see in the pic that are surface rusted.....as well as the matching passages in the intake manifold. Havent even addressed that yet.

yup, could mean intake manifold rusting through or cylinder head rusting through (or cracked) in that general area, so both ports are getting a drink of water as the engine runs.

It would be prudent to see what a SET of used heads would cost you off a 2000 + 4.3 engine.might want to look for a intake along the way..

Not sure where the intake rust is coming from.....i thought it was making its way backwards through exhaust/cyl/intake valve while at rest. So i guess the point now is that it doesnt matter what castings I currently have.....and to just go find a set of 97' and up heads either with roller or bolt down rockers......as long as its a vortec and things match.

Re: True or False about 4.3 truck heads?

So I just got home and called the valveguy. Yep...I have 2 different heads....a 113 and a 107. The 113 is bad, and the 107 he can rebuild. So....I guess I am off to the boneyard for either 2 113 heads, or 1 good 107 head to match the 107 I have that is rebuildable. Heads are $50 apiece so I guess I am not out too much $$ either way.

Thoughts?

Which head is the one with the rust in the intake passages? The good head or the bad one? I'd assume the bad one, but figured I'd ask.

If it happens to be the good one, did he check for cracks? I'd probably cut my losses and make sure it's good by replacing both in that case.

I think the rusted intakes are indeed from the bad head...port side, not sure if its the 113 or 107. I think I'm just gonna go find (2) 113s from years 97-99 and have him reman those and be done with this.
