Trying to find a suitable engine

I have a 12-ft. cedar strip construction boat with a 16 inch transom and need to find a suitable short-shaft (15 inch) motor that can be set up with forward controls. From my searches online, it seems that this configuration only exists in long shaft versions. Has anyone else run into this problem and if so, what was the solution?

Short shaft motors still exist. However I would be looking for a vintage late 60s 50hp Merc and a bronze 2-blade prop for that boat myself

If you are looking at new. I know Suzuki manufactures short shaft remote control models up to 25hp. Online outboards will ship them direct to you

Thanks for the idea, Scott, but I'm done buying old motors. Finding parts is a bear.
I would really like to use the Suzuki motor with electric start and remote controls, matt167, but the weigh in at 118 lb. which might be too heavy for my little boat. I had a Yamaha 15 hp with electric start and remote controls but the bow stuck up significantly and the boat would not plane off. I'm thinking that I need something with forward controls that comes in under 100 lbs. I can live without electric start and power tilt.

Tohatsu (or merc/Nissan/etc) 20hp is 95#. The Suzuki is a bit heavier

Anything more than 20hp is over 100# unless you go older 2-stroke

If you do not like affordable older motors then visit a showroom.----Tell them what you want and present the credit card.----I would go with an older 6 / 8 HP Mercury.----Avalable with electric start and kits for remote operation.
