1999 Volvo SX drive on a 5.0L GL. 4110172203 motor and 3868944 drive if I am reading the correct numbers.

Trim sender has a broken wire. Sender itself has a part number 3855535 on a paper label that I can amazingly still read...but it seems to be discontinued/superceded several times depending on the source I look up. Have found confilicting info that I can use 3855074, 3849411, 3863007, and a few others. I've found prices ranging from $52 to $172. But I have no idea if I'm even comparing the same parts...

Does anyone know which is the correct part number that I should actually be shopping for? Please advise if you need different serial numbers than I provided above. Thank you.

3594989 is the newest number with analog gauge

3858212 if you have a digital gauge.

The 3849411 is for an earlier model drive, and is the new number that replaces 3863007.

Wow...yet another part number!

My gauge has a needle that moves left and right...this means it is analog, correct? So 3594989 is the one I should be looking for?

Your last sentence about "earlier model drives" means I should NOT be shopping for those part numbers, correct? Or is mine actually considered an "earlier model"? How do I know if my drive is "early production" or "late production?"

Just verifying I am understanding correctly. Thank you so much for your typical fast and accurate assistance.

I used your SN and the Volvo dealer site. 3594989 is the one you want.

Re: Trying to find correct Volvo trim sender part number

OK...something here was simply not jiving, so I went back to the boat and rechecked my serial numbers. I THINK MAYBE MY DRIVE HAS BEEN SWITCHED?? I just purchased this boat used and I don't know the history, so anything is possible.

The numbers I provided above were out of the engine compartment. BUT, now when I go to the drive itself and read the badly corroded serial number, I see some different numbers:

SX-M 4112050296

That number does not match any of the numbers in the engine compartment that I provided above.

Does this change your answer on the part number I should be seeking? Can you tell me if in fact my drive has been switched, if so what vintage is it? My current sender was a 3-wire version. I can post a photo of it if that would help.

So sorry for the confusion, I'm still learning my way around this new-to-me and very neglected ride I'm working on fixing up.

Nope, that is the drive that came with it. Besides, it's the transom shield, not the drive, that determines the sender. The SN for your transom shield is 4111594311

Re: Trying to find correct Volvo trim sender part number

Great! Thank you for the clarification, I've run Mercruisers for a long time....this is my first Volvo ever, and it's one that needs quite a bit of attention besides! Merc and Volvo seem to be similar...but different.

Thanks once again for all your help and your patience. Time to go part shopping...

If you have the 3 wire system, then that is the earlier style.

Re: Trying to find correct Volvo trim sender part number

The old one that I removed is definitely the 3 wire style...2 blacks and a white. The reason it's not working is because the white wire broke off right at the sender.

So it sounds like I should be looking for a 3849411 or a 3863007 to replace it.
