i juxt bought a motor off a guy and all i got was the serial number 3820965 i am trying to find the year and see what i can do to it before i drop it in the water he said it was ran about 2 years ago and was winterized and been sitting since if anyone can help me that would be great

sorry it is a 50 hp and says 500 on the front

i paid 300 with all the controls it looks like it is good shape i looked it over i dont know much about the mercury cause i only owned evenrude are these good motors is there any common problems i should be looking for

If the engine has had normal maintance it should be a great engine, the 4 cyl.50 hp have been around since 58 and did not go out of production till the mid 90s just about the best outboard ever built.
