Trying to fix tach.. What does this wire go to?(Pictures)

i bought this boat and the tach doesnt work it powers up to 0.. im going to check the rectifier tommorrow but ive been out on the water 6 full days on a battery so i think the battery is getting charged.. so i traced the ignition wire coming from the tach to this connector not plugged into anything...


also this wire comes out the back of my throttle control and wasnt plugged into anything.. the 2 look almost like they would hook together but they are both male plugs.. what is this wire supposed to be plugged into? (sorry about picture quality but its a camera phone at night..)

my setup is a 1989 18' procraft with a 150 mariner.. would better pictures help?

The plug looks just like what plugs onto the back of the control box on my Johnyrudes. On my setup the female plug is built into the controls. Did that boat have a Johnson or Evenrude on it originally? Is a mariner a Mercury?

to my knowledge no because the motor is the same year as the boat
