I have a 1994 Suzuki 25 that used to be on my boston whaler. We replaced it because it did not run very well, and would not idle. It would start, and run if we kept the throttle up, but as soon as you get off the throttle it would die. What could I do to keep this thing running reliably, so I can sell it? I was going to buy new spark plugs, re paint the cowling and maybe disassemble the carbs for a good cleaning. What else can I do? What could be causing these running problems?

A good carb cleaning sounds like it would do the trick, you might also want to check compression just to give you a good idea as to what you're dealing with. You also might pull the lower unit and change the impeller and gear oil. Pull the fuel filter and clean it out. These are typical things that people look at to gauge what shape the motor is in and hopefully will help you get what you want for it.
Good luck
