Trying to get an old boat back into shape question?

My boat is 15 years old and I have always used it mostly in salt water. It has been sitting for about a year due to a bad running engine and other minor problems. I just put a new (used) new to me anyway outboard on it and took it out for a test run today. It apears my engine problems are solved for now and I am going to spend the next couple of weeks repairing the other issues I have had.

This leads to my question. I am going through all the accessary wireing trying to make the boat as trouble free as possible. I was wondering if while rewireing if I should go ahead and replace the teleflex throttle & shift cables? I don't think I have ever replaced them, am I due for a breakdown or should I just leave them alone as long as they work? I guess what I am asking is, is it a good idea to replace old teleflex cables or do they last?

If it ain't broke.... Seriously, how do they feel? Are they getting tight and hard to operate?

Well now that you mention it they are pretty tight. That is what got me to thinking about replacing them. I pulled the binicle shifter off the center console when I got back this afternoon and it seemed to shift pretty smooth without the cables connected.

Is there a spray you can use on them to free them up?

Nevermind, I found the answer. Thanks all anyway. Since I already had the binnicle off and disconnected I took the cables loose at the motor end. The shift cable moved easily not so with the throttle cable. I think I know which cable needs replacing.
