Well, the time has come to sell my boat. My boat is a 1984 rinker v190, it has the infamous mercruiser 470. At the end of last season it started doing the coolant leak problem. I have no mechanical abilities and would like to sell it.

It has been a pretty reliable and well running boat. I redid the interior and floor. I am in michigan btw. What do you all think would be reasonable to sell my boat for? Any other advice for me?

Here's what it looks like:

My $0.02 . . .

List for $2,400, accept $1,900. . . The back seat and no sunpad don't do justice to the nice helm seats and the bow seating.

thanks for the input tpenfield.
Do you guys think it would be worth it to try and replace the camshaft seals and then sell it? or just sell it needing repair? keep in mind I would probably have to have a mechanic do the repair, as I am not mechanically inclined at all.

bump, still wondering what people think. I have not really been getting a lot of interest, and I would like to sell it sooner rather than later. is there just not a market for an old boat needing repair?

470 that has issues? You're gonna have to take what you can get. This time of year "water ready" sells. I wouldn't put the money into paying someone else to fix it just to sell it.

If you have it repaired , would you still want to sell it ?

Re: Trying to sell my boat

If it were me, I'd sell it noting exactly what it needs.

List the big item, but be sure to list 2-3 simple things. This totally disarms potential buyers. It gives a holistic picture to them. When you list just the bigger fix needed, they wonder, "Yeah, that and what else is possibly in need of repair?"

>So, list the leak, and list 2-3 simple things that need attention. It makes them feel like they have a complete picture.

>If you place an ad, use bullet points only. Go for 6-8 bullet points.... maybe 10.

>Take lots of pics

>Be literate. Write a decent ad!

She will sell at a fair price.

Now go!

Check craigslist and see what boats are going for. Look it up on nada that will get you a rough estimate. I look at boats all the time on craigslist around here... and just my first thought was $2500. But you have to check your area and see...

I sold my Singray end of March this year. Had tons of calls and texts. I thought i priced it fair. And only a couple people said my price was higher than nada. The boat was only for sale for 36 hours. I knew it wan't overpriced. But of course afterward, i feel like i could have got more out of it... but i got what i asked and it's gone.

Yeah, that's the way I was thinking, guess that just reinforces that.

Definitely would want to sell it. School and a house are a little more important to me. I'll get one once I'm done with college, till then I'll just stick with paddle power.

If it were me, I'd sell it noting exactly what it needs.

Excellent advice, thank you! this really helps.

I have had a lot of phone calls and emails, I'm just having trouble getting them to come check out the boat. I'll just be patient; I think my boat is fairly priced.

thanks for the input everyone!
