HI all,
I am wondering if ALL the wires need to be connected to the engine, ignition and junction box as if it's on the boat ready to go? OR, can I just connect the pos/neg of the battery to the motor on a stand to start it? I tried with just the Pos and Neg off the battery and no fire and no spark. I'm guessing there is something needed with the other wires going thru ignition switch, cutout switch, safety switch, etc., that generate a spark? Any input is greatly appreciated. I'm also looking on the web on how to test all the components to check them. I figure I would attempt a start as if everything is works (simple first try).
Thanks in advance.

Facts for you.-----This motor does not need 12 volts to run !-----It does not need a generator to run.------Pull the flywheel ( 3 bolts 1/4-20 ) to inspect points and coils.-----If coils are original they will likely be cracked and you need new ones.-----These are an elegantly simple , reliable easy to fix and maintain motor.

Boatinfo - 1922-1964 Johnson Service Manual

this book does not cover your model but being a good old magneto engine you will find tons of valueable info on carbs, magnetos etc...

utube has lots of info on fixing /tuning magneto engines like yours testing coils points etc...

Or bring it over for a tutorial on how to look after this fine motor.----No manual needed here for that simple machine.
