I was amazed to see 2 people on a tube behind what must have been at least a 45' Motor Yacht! It looked like the SS Minnow on steroids. This boat was old. Wood construction with paint chipping off, kitchen table and chairs on the stern deck area complete with a gas grill!!! It looked like it was resurrected from the dead! Being about 100' from it when it tore past at full throttle (or close to it), it appeared to have twin diesels.

This guy was in a popular water sports area with the average boat in the 18' to 20' range. The wake he threw was at least 4 foot. This guy kept doing laps. Everyone just cleared the area while captain Ahab did his laps with his crew beer in hands. I was truly amazed! To top it off, the tubers didn't even have life jackets on. At one point, a rider fell off and this guy kept going for about a 1/8 of a mile before he realized he lost a rider. The human race never ceases to amaze me.

I imagine that the gas milage for pulling a tuber must be pretty good with a boat that size
:)

Belch

The process of natural selection is alive and well. He's just helping weed out the old gene pool. :D

Like Belchy said, that must cost alot of $ for gas to pull tubes behind a monster like that!

:DW the long 4' wake I would think jetskis and hotdog boaters would be buzzin the thing like flies on a garbage truck!!!Heck they might offer to pay for some fuel to jump the big wake for a while.

I see people pulling tubes, skis etc behind almost every variety of boat, from 12' tins to party barges to 25' cruisers. The worst is when the skiier is trying to learn behind a boat over 20'. Boats that aren't made for it are ridiculous to stop, turn, go back and start all over with a novice. When the river is crowded those yahoos are a problem--and were 5 years ago.

There probably is not a Navy vet who has stood on the fantail watching the wake while underway and not thought what it would be like to be on skis back there.

I was stationed on a Coast Guard cutter in San Diego (USCGC Chase), and once we hit 15 kts or more, she threw a nice wake. Had that same thought of skis or a tube off the stern many a times.

I would have loved to chase that puppy in my Glastron jumping his wake if no one was being pulled behind it.. who needs a jest ski??? In my local waters the knuckleheads and newbs get pulled over and safety checked more so than those who do our best to be safe while also having a little white knuckle fun. It's a fine line between white knuckle and knucklehead... lets hope we never cross it.
