Ok Guys: MAy be a stupid Question. " I'm new so please bear with me" it seems that my Volvo penta 4.3 runs a bit rough at idle. I will try to post a vid. later today. But I was wondering is it a ROYAL PITA to do a tune up on these things ? the pulg wires look a little brown on top. I haven't pulled a plug. they look like there a pita to get to. and then I'm thinking a dist. cap and rotor. and fuel filter.... is this about right ? also from your experience, I should expect an entire day ?

thanks again

What serial number is on your engine? And/or what year is the boat? The older 4.3s can be a little rough at times, the new ones with the balance shaft, are less prone to it.

I have a 1999 Volvo penta 4.3 with a carb. Mine was also running a little rough at idle. New gas filter,NGK plugs, cap and rotor, and she now purrs like a kitty.
Yea the plugs were a little hard to get to,but that's about it. You can do it. About 60.00$. Not sure what a dealer would charge. By the way I think they had never been changed before. Dave-R

THX Dave-R, I was hoping someone who's done it b4 would chime in....... I only had it on the water one time and it seemed cold nature. While in no wake zones it died on me 2 times. and while watching it. it was rough. a little sluggish on idle to WOT, I suspect a tune up has not been done at all.
can I get parts at a local auto store? Meaning the rotor and cap ? the plugs shouldn't be that much of a biggie. the wires look a bit brown on top like normal wear. But mine as well replace while I'm there. any suggestions on parts ?

Thx

Oh yea..... what did you use to get the plugs out ? a ratchet, with a swivel, and a deep socket ?

I just used a 5/8" spark plug socket. They have a rubber grommet inside to protect the plug. and a small extension with the 3/8" ratchet. I got the parts from our local NAPA dealer. Quality of their parts has always been good. Good luck, Dave-R
