First off, the guys when you call Mercury about their props know nothing. When you call turbo, they give you specs of not only their props, but Mercury's as well. I think I am going to go with the turbo lightning, but what size. The guy at turbo said I should be able to turn around 5500 rpms with a 25" pitch, but might want to drop down to a 24. he said my top speed based on gear ratios, pitch, and theoretical slip would run between 62-64 with either the 24 or 25 pitch. So which one?

Boat: 1992 Ranger 391V Comanche
Motor: 1992 Yamaha Pro V 200
Prop: Predator - 4 Blades - 25 pitch
RPM @ WOT - 5300
Speed at WOT - 57.5
10" Jackplate
Propshaft is 3.5" below pad
Water guage psi - 14-17#

I don't think 5500 is enough. I'd go with the 24. You can always add bite which increases efficiency and you can add it where you need it (probably bow lift in this case). Going with the 25 and the decreasing bite to gain rpms will hurt efficiency.

Re: Turbo Lightning

by dropping to a 24 inch prop is should gain 200 rpms, but since it is dropping to a three blade prop, how much rpm gain will that give me? Can i expect to top 60 mph with the 24? Also, the lightning is a good way to go, right?

8) Right now im trying to get a high speed prop dialed in,,,,, these guy's have insight to thing's you could never imagine and Dhadley is one of the best.......let him guide you. However when it you do get it right it is kinda amazing how the right prop can bring a engine-boat together and make it sing...................Ohh and of course you might end up even saying i want some more ........lol

Yea by theory it should raisethe rpms, and the lighting should do well on the ranger.after you get it i bet Dale will want to start playing with set-up to fine tune it inget more.you should be over 60mph.
and i want more tood:)never fast enough once get the bugd:)

Re: Turbo Lightning

One thing I know from a friends boat - that Yamahas love to run right around 5,500 RPM's - but I have see tests that show they run a bit faster if the revs are raised a bit...
