Reading the winterization sticky it says "Check the gimbal bearing. Does it turn smooth? if not replace it."

How exactly am I turning my gimbal bearing, Im assuming by hand, just rotating it? How much should it turn? Thanks

that's how i turn mine. with my hand (fingers). it's kinda slippery usually. the brg. will turn 360* and should have no feel at all to it. very smooth. i also grease it up after i feel it (assuming ya got the greaseable version). that way i can rotate it during the greasing process....

...adding a verbal picture to Admiral Ziggy's comments:

Form your hand as thought you were about to perform the Boy Scout Pledge, jam those fingers into the bore of the bearing and rotate in both directions as far as your wrist will allow. The rotation should be owl snot smooth without any indication of roughness. :)

You're turning it to make sure that the balls between the inner and outer races aren't rusted or pitted.
