Re: Turns over cant get her to fire up

No problem. Hopefully he checks the vavle adjustment the old school way. Just seen the last pic you posted the rotor is pointing right this time. So if you got good spark and fuel it should fire up. If the engine seems like it turns over too fast then I would say the valves are still to tight. Your buddy should be able tell by sound of the engine and by checking each rocker. If I was near by I would look at for you. Normally If they are to tight I can see it with the valve cover off. Of course I know what I'm looking for, it's something you learn by hands-on experince not though text books or someone telling you. To me it's hard to explain in words how I do it.

let us know if he gets it fired.

Re: Turns over cant get her to fire up

well my buddy thought that the rotor was a bit off and then took a look at the valve nuts and said we need to deal with this first.... so we did the valve adjustment and Im pretty confident it was done correctly as per the manual
it took some time but it was all logical assuming you know exactly which valve is exhaust and which is intake ..we were able to verify thius using the old gasket... So valve adjustment seems to be done correctly...

It was getting late for him and he had me crank it to see what was going on... we noticed a small amount of fuel leaking from the gasket at the carb....

by the way the engine did not want to fire up still.....

So Im goin to do a compression check on the cylinders tomorrow

He told me that plugs are saturated ...could be a problem....

other issues ---we were a little surprised that oil was not jumping out by the valves .... that observation didnt make feel to good.........

so end of long day with a little bit of eductaion to show and no thunder...

So it goes ...I will continue this thread till the engine works or i blow it up...
Thanks for Helping especcially big thanks to Lonemust really thanks man most appreciated..

Re: Turns over cant get her to fire up

runninng a compression test on her today -i need a little help understanding -i know its simple but i have never run it before... Ok when I do the first cylinder the psi jumps from 100- 160 depending on how long i crank the engine. Im alittle confused. At the end of the test seems to be that all cylinders max at 160 psi
any thoughts fellas?

Re: Turns over cant get her to fire up

By the way this engine has a new ring job performed by me and with 160 psi I believe after i get her started and some wear in it will be at 140 ...please correct me if im wrong ..
Now i believe I might have really fouled the plugs up fom too much gas so ..well see.

Today i threw back on my old carb to make sure im getting fuel.

So Ican check off compression and fuel and i guess that leaves spark
I thought i had it under control but obviously not.

Not trying to be a smart***** atomb, but outdrives are ALOT more to them. lol
A quick way to get TDC #1 compression....stuff a rag in the sparkplug hole and click the engine over 1/4 turn each click. The rag will pop close to TDC. Glad you learned somethings this week.
