Can anyone tell me if Marine TCW type two cycle oil can be safely used in Two Cycle Air Cooled Engines? One engine mfg. of air cooled engines told me it cannot, because water cooled engine oils do not have the additives that are required for air cooled engines. Is this the truth, or do these people just want to sell their own oils?

They can, but an oil designed for an air cooled engine will be a much better choice.

Very true, you will see oils with pictures of outboards and chainsaws on the same bottle, but you will do yourself a favor by using an air cooled only oil or an outboard only oil in most applications.

Now we will get posts that they have used TC-W3 for years in air cooled applications with great results, but the fact still will remain that you are better off not to.

If you want an absolutly awesome air cooled oil, use Mobil1 MX 2T Usually available at AutoZone stores.
