Two Depth Finder Locations

I'm working on my boat and I was thinking. It would be nice to have two spots on my boat to hook up my depth finder. I have a 16' lund with 3 bench seats. I would like one spot back by the motor so I can see whats going on in back then I would like to move it up to the bow of the boat while I'm doing my trolling motor. How would I go about doing that?

Pretty straightforward, Arkman. You need two SONARs; one transom mounted and one troller mounted.

If they are on the same frequency you won't want to run them both at the same time.

I tried to do it with one SONAR and two transducers, but it was a pain switching it back and forth.

I agree with JB, moving the head unit around is a pain, and the licklyhood over time of dropping the expensive head unit, becomes very likely. Then, if your lucky, its in the boat. HB, and suspect Lowrance, sell switches for 2 head units to one transducer (either or, but not both). The switch costs as much as or more than typical down sonar transducer. So, you might as well have two complete independant systems. Failure of one, will leave you with a working sonar.

Agreed on the two separate units. I have one the console and one at the bow with the transducer mounted on the troller. No fuss - no bother.

I know that Lowrance makes a switch that allows either of two head units to work off one transducer. I bought one from eBay for $12 plus some shipping. I have seen a couple more in the same forum as the fishfinders.

I think Garmin makes a similar switch and I know that Humminbird also makes one.

If you have two head units, why not just use a second transducer and be done with it. No wiring, no fuss.
