Two kicker motors?

I was driving home today and passed a farily large boat being towed, mayber a 26-28 footer. Center console or walkaround, hard to remember. Anyway, in addition to being an I/O, it had two kicker motors, maybe 10-15 hp, one on each side of the outdrive, on transom brackets, mounted near each end of the transom. Is this some new way to be extra redundant, or does this guy just think its cool to have twin kickers? Can't say I have ever seen that before...Anyone else seen this?

Re: Two kicker motors?

Jason
I seen this several times. Almost always on larger boats that are used just for fishing. Several of the ones I have seen were on Pro Offshore Fishing teams boats. Most of these boats are in the 26 to 30 foot range. One I saw had twin V8 I/O with a 50HP kicker on one side and a 25 on the other. This was at a boat show and the fishing team was there so I ask why so many and so big. His answer was when fishing for tuna or sail fish they troll at 9 to 13 mph. Even the 50 hp would barely make that speed so they run both kickers. When Back trolling for Salmon they run the 25 alone.

My boat only a 21 foot I have a 15HP kicker and it is barely enough on windy rough days. Twin Kicker also gives you great boat control when approching a dock on a windy day or waiting in a line of 20 boats to waiting to retrive.

Interesting. Had to be an out of towner. 2 mph is about all that is needed trolling wise on this lake, so he had to be from elsewhere.
