Re: two outdrives to one

Well after a very slow melt of a winter the likes never seen in my lifetime conditions are right to continue. Attached please find the bare transom and engine bay with lines marked to show where i intend to cut. I fully assume there will be a bit of discovery and adaptation of plan as the layers are exposed. I have two 4x8x3/4 marine grade, two gallons of resin and a bunch of both mat and rove to cover. Also notice i have marked where i need to cut the stringers and engine beds to accommodate the single v8. Any constructive comments most welcome. What a shame, the wood on this transom is in excellent condition. Guess i willhave to try again to upload the pics.

The chines have jacks at transom, the boat is sitting level on the bunk trailer and there is a bit of weight on the keel to stabilize the hull.

Any suggestions how to get the edges and corners at the hull to transom area clean? Have had a heck of a time waiting on weeks of rain now heat but finishing up the plywood removal. What a job, the wood was in perfect condition. Thinking of just using the big grinder but a little scared i might cut int the glass a bit. Feelin' tired...

4.5" grinder with 24 grit. you will discover that you do not cut into the glass as quickly as you think. make sure to wear your PPE

The transom is all cleaned came out real nice but a heck of a lot of chiseling. Have a template cut. One more sunny day then more rain coming. Hope to have time to laminate the plywood tomorrow. If i'm real lucky will try for bedding in the transom plys. Plan on using long strand FRP filler to round out the edges. One thing i learned from Dad was no sharp corners.

I have also added poly resin to long-strand to make it more "pourable". I tried piping it like a pastry bag, however the plastic bag I was using sprung a leak and it made a mess.

Another good day. The marine plys went in through the hatch without having to cut an overlap. The sections are just under 8 ft. Didn't bond anything yet but spent the time fitting and grinding back for the feathered edges all the way around and forward up the freeboard. The new stringers will be made from the leftover marine plywood laminated vertically as was original with the Carver. Having a little trouble finding the 1x4 rollers we used to use now they only sell foam it seems. Like the idea about mixing the longstrand.
